Overview

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is reserved for cases of chronic rhinosinusitis that do not respond to medical therapy.

Surgery

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is reserved for cases of chronic rhinosinusitis that do not respond to medical therapy. The efficacy of of surgery in managing rhinosinusitis is not well-established. However, patients with chronic rhinosinusitis associated with nasal polyposis reported symptomatic relief of obstruction and anosmia/hyposmia following surgery.[1][2]
